Volume Lock privacy policy

Volume Lock collects nothing, sends nothing and has no servers. This page says what it stores on your device and why it asks for each permission.

Volume Lock is a Chrome extension that sets and remembers the volume of each site. It collects no personal data, runs no servers, has no analytics and makes no network requests.

What it stores

The extension keeps your settings in the browser's own storage: the volume level you saved for each site, your rules (default level, sites to leave alone, sites that block autoplay), the equalizer and sound settings, and the theme. Saved levels and rules use Chrome's sync storage, so they follow your signed-in Google account between your devices. Chrome handles that sync. The developer never receives the data and cannot read it. The theme choice and a one-time first-run hint stay on the device.

You can export all settings to a file, import them again, or delete everything from the options page.

What it does not do

It does not read, record, store or send the content of the pages you visit, your browsing history, passwords, form data or cookies. It does not sell or share data with anyone, because it has no data to share. Audio shown in the level ring around the knob is analyzed in memory and played back unchanged. It is never recorded or sent anywhere.

Why it asks for each permission

Each permission is used only for the volume features, and only inside your browser.

  • Storage: to keep your saved levels and settings.
  • Tabs: to read the address of the active tab so a saved level can be matched to the site, to mute tabs, to find tabs that are playing sound for "mute other tabs", and to show the saved level on the toolbar badge.
  • Scripting: to add the extension's scripts to tabs that were already open when it was installed or updated, so their saved levels apply without a reload.
  • Tab capture and offscreen documents: to measure and boost audio that page scripts cannot reach (for example another origin without CORS, or protected media) and to draw the live level ring. The audio stays in the browser.
  • Access to all sites: the scripts run on pages as they load so that a saved volume applies before media starts. Any site can have a saved level, so the list of sites cannot be fixed in advance. The scripts only change the volume of media elements and Web Audio output.

Children

The extension collects no data from anyone, including children.
